After Claude Code answers, it can show a grey suggestion for your next prompt right in the input box, based on your conversation. Press Tab, then Enter, and you are on to the next step without typing.
Here is how to use it, how to turn it on or off, what it costs, and when it will not show.
Step 1: use it
- Finish a task in Claude Code and look at the prompt box. If there is grey text, that is the suggestion.
- Press Tab (or the Right arrow) to put it in the box, then Enter to send it.
- Start typing instead and the suggestion disappears.
- When you first open a session, the grey example comes from your project's git history.
