Stop Paying Adobe $68.97 a Month: Install the Free GIMP, Kdenlive and Blender With One Command
Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects, each on its own plan, add up to $68.97 a month. GIMP, Kdenlive and Blender are free open-source apps that do the same jobs, and Claude Code can install all three for you with one command. Which free app replaces which Adobe app, the install prompt, ready-made prompts for learning them, and what you will honestly miss
Adobe sells Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects as separate subscriptions. At about $22.99 a month each, the three together come to $68.97 a month, according to third-party price trackers in mid-2026 (check adobe.com for today's price; the all-apps Creative Cloud plan is a different, bigger plan). The video shows that bill counting down to $0.00 as each paid app is swapped for a free one.
The free apps are not made by Adobe, and they are not exact copies. They are open source, which means the code is public and the apps are free to download and use. For a lot of everyday work they are enough. This page says where they are, and where they aren't.
What you swap
- Photoshop to GIMP. GIMP is a free photo editor with layers, masks, brushes, filters and selections. It opens .psd files and keeps their layers.
- Premiere Pro to Kdenlive. Kdenlive is a free video editor with multiple tracks, cuts, titles, transitions and effects.
- After Effects to Blender. Blender is a free 3D and animation program. It also has a compositor and a video editor built in, so it covers a lot of motion-graphics work. It is a different tool from After Effects, not a copy of it, so plan on learning it.
Each one is free to download. No signup and no trial that ends. Claude Code can install all three for you in one go (next section).
