Beacon is an open-source (MIT) memory layer for coding agents. It records your sessions in the background, finds the fixes, corrections and workflows that actually worked, and turns them into skills that future agents can use.

Here's how it works, how to set it up, and the catches.

Why it matters

Every new chat starts from zero. The bug Claude fixed yesterday, the test convention it keeps getting wrong, the correction you have typed five times: all of it is gone when the session ends. Beacon keeps it, and it works across tools, so a fix learned in Claude Code can help Cursor or Codex too.

How the loop works

  1. Use your agents as usual. Beacon captures prompts, responses, tool calls, commands, file edits, approvals and tokens.
  2. It evaluates what worked and extracts useful knowledge: a debugging path, a repo convention, the right sequence of tools.
  3. You review and approve each piece once.
  4. Future agents retrieve it through MCP or Agent Skills, in Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, OpenCode and 20+ other tools.
