tokentab: See Where Every Claude Token Goes, as a Monthly Statement
A free tool that reads the logs Claude Code already saves on your computer and itemises your token use by project, model, day and kind of work. How to run it, how to read it, and the catch
tokentab is a free, open-source tool (MIT) that reads the session logs Claude Code already writes to your computer and turns them into one monthly statement: the total up top, then every project, model and day itemised below. It runs entirely on your machine: no account, no API key, nothing uploaded.
Here's how to run it, how to read what it shows, and the catch.
Why it helps when you keep hitting your limit
Claude Code records the token count of every call in its session logs (in ~/.claude/projects), but it never shows you a breakdown. tokentab adds them up so you can see which project, which model and which days ate your usage, and what kind of work the sessions were (feature, refactor, debugging, chat).
In the repo's own sample statement, refactoring took 36% of a month's spend and one model took most of it: that's the kind of thing you can't see from the limit bar alone.
