Write One Claude Skill, Use It in 70+ AI Apps
Claude's team just handed the skills format to an open foundation, and more than 70 AI apps already read it, including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code. What a skill is, how to write your first one, how to carry it to other apps, a prompt, and the catch
On October 22, 2026, Anthropic, the creators of Claude, donated Agent Skills to the Agentic AI Foundation, a group under the Linux Foundation. Skills started inside Claude Code, and the format is now open and vendor-neutral: more than 70 platforms have integrated it, including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code. About 1 million skills have been published and they have been installed nearly 280 million times.
That means a skill you write for Claude is not stuck in Claude. Here's how to write one and carry it to any app that supports the format.
