Claude Haiku 5.5 Is Ten Times Cheaper: Switch Your App in One Command
Haiku 5.5 costs $0.10 per million input tokens, down from $1 on Haiku 4.5. What that does to your bill, the one limit to respect, and a prompt that switches your app and shows your new monthly cost
Claude Haiku 5.5 (model ID claude-haiku-5-5) came out on 7 October 2026. On Claude's pricing page it costs $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for prompts up to 100,000 tokens. Haiku 4.5 costs $1 and $5. That is ten times less per token, and Haiku 5.5 reads up to 1 million tokens at once (Haiku 4.5: 200,000) and writes up to 128,000.
What it does to your bill
- Per token: $1.00 -> $0.10 input, $5.00 -> $0.50 output.
- Per text: Haiku 5.5 uses a newer tokenizer, so the same text counts as about 30% more tokens. A $100 a month Haiku 4.5 bill becomes about $13, not $10.
- Batch jobs are half price again: $0.05 in, $0.25 out per million.
- Cache hits cost $0.01 per million, and prompts from 512 tokens can now be cached (Haiku 4.5 needed 4,096).
