Set Up Claude Haiku 5.5, the 10x Cheaper Claude Model
Claude Haiku 5.5 costs a tenth of the old Haiku per token and reads a million tokens at once. What it costs, the one-line switch, the two catches that change your bill, and three cheap things to build with it this week
On October 7, Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5, which it calls its cheapest, fastest and most capable small model. Input costs ten cents per million tokens, down from a dollar on Haiku 4.5.
Here's what it costs, how to switch in one line, the two catches, and what it's actually good for.
What it costs
| Haiku 4.5 | Haiku 5.5 | |
|---|---|---|
| Input, per million tokens | $1 | $0.10 (prompts up to 100K tokens) |
| Output, per million tokens | $5 | $0.50 (prompts up to 100K tokens) |
| Context window | 200K tokens | 1M tokens |
| Max output | 64K tokens | 128K tokens |
It's also the fastest model in Claude's current lineup, and the Batch API takes another 50% off.
