Claude's Plugin Store Is Open to Everyone: 5 Plugins You Can Build This Weekend, and How to Get Yours Listed
Claude Marketplace launched with more than 2,000 plugins and connectors, and any developer on a paid plan can now submit their own. Five weekend-sized plugin ideas, and the exact steps from an empty folder to a live listing.
On September 23 Anthropic launched Claude Marketplace, one catalog inside Claude with more than 2,000 plugins and connectors from companies like Atlassian, Google, Microsoft, Notion and Salesforce. Two days later it opened the directory to everyone else: any developer on a paid Claude plan can now submit their own plugin, and once it's live, people add it in one click on claude.ai, the desktop and mobile apps, Cowork and Claude Code.
It's the iPhone App Store in 2008 again. Apple opened with a few hundred apps (more than 800 by its first weekend, when people downloaded 10 million of them in three days), and the developers who were on the shelf early got found without fighting a million other apps for attention. Right now the shelf is as empty as it will ever be.
What a plugin actually is
A plugin is a folder people add once. It can hold skills (instructions that teach Claude a workflow: the steps, the defaults, what good output looks like), a connector (an MCP server that lets Claude reach a product's data), commands and agents, in any combination. A plugin with only skills is complete, which is why you don't need to build a server to have one in the store.
