Claude forgets your project the moment you close the session. claude-mem is an open-source Claude Code plugin, past 100,000 GitHub stars, that records what Claude does, squeezes it into short summaries and brings them back when you open the project again.
Here's how it works, how to install it, the one catch, and a prompt to test it.
How it works
- Hooks write down what Claude does at the start, during and end of every session.
- The notes are compressed into short summaries and stored on your computer in a SQLite database.
- Next session, the summaries are put in front of Claude automatically.
- Claude searches the summaries first and opens full details only for the ones it needs. The README claims about 10x fewer tokens this way.
- Wrap anything sensitive in <private> tags and it is left out of storage.
