Stop Babysitting Claude: Make It Ding (or Ping Your Phone) the Second It Needs You
By default only three terminal apps tell you when Claude Code is done. The one settings line that makes it ding in any terminal, the switch that pings your phone, and the prompt that sets it all up for you
When Claude Code finishes a task, or stops to ask your permission, it can tell you. But out of the box it only sends a notice in three terminal apps: iTerm2, Ghostty and Kitty. Everywhere else, Claude just waits in silence.
So you sit and watch it, or you come back and find it stuck on one question. Here's the fix, in one line.
Who gets a notice by default
| Where you run Claude Code | What happens by default |
|---|---|
| iTerm2, Ghostty, Kitty | A desktop notification (iTerm2 needs one setting, below) |
| Mac Terminal | A bell, but only if you turned Terminal's audible bell off |
| VS Code terminal, Warp, everything else | Nothing |
