When Claude takes a wrong turn, the usual fix is to argue: "no, not that file", "try again". Claude Code sends your full conversation with every request, so the wrong turn and every correction stay in the chat and ride along each time. Rewinding takes them out of the conversation instead.

Step 1: open the rewind menu

  1. Press Escape once to stop Claude if it is still working.
  2. With the prompt box empty, press Escape twice. Or type /rewind. (If the box has text, double Escape clears it instead, and Up brings the text back.)
  3. The menu lists the prompts you sent in this session.
